Youth Week celebrates young people in our society and will be held from 9 to 16 April 2021. In honour of the event, we have created a list of the top 5 activities for youth at the Aviation Heritage Museum.
- The Young Aviators Area
We have started construction of the all-new Young Aviators Area which once completed will feature exciting experiences, with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning areas.
Attractions will include engines on display, a cinema, interactive displays, simulators and virtual reality.
Although still a work in progress, our enthusiastic volunteers are ready to share their knowledge with visitors of all ages and foster a love of STEM with the next generation of aviators.
New elements are being added regularly, so make the Young Aviators Area a priority at your next visit!
- The Lancaster
The Museum houses a rich collection of aircraft, memorabilia and artefacts, which illustrate Western Australia’s rich aviation history.
Perhaps the most impressive of all items however, is the Avro Lancaster. Its sheer size and presence must be seen to be believed!
The Museum’s Lancaster is one of the few still available for viewing in the world.
Learn all about the aircraft’s important military history, as one of the most well-known and successful of the WWII night bombers.
- Bomber Command Virtual Reality
Once you’ve marvelled at the Lancaster, older youth will enjoy the experience of the new Bomber Command virtual reality experience.
The unique experience offers a real-life insight into what life was like for the brave men of the Bomber Command Squadrons. Based on the real-life sound recording of a Lancaster Bomber crew, the virtual reality takes you on a night-time bombing mission inside a Lancaster Bomber from an airfield in Lincolnshire to the heart of Europe.
In addition to Museum entry, view prices here, the Bomber Command virtual reality experience costs $25 per person.

- Aircraft and Cockpit Tours
Another one for slightly older youth, the Museum offers a range of exciting aircraft and cockpit tours, as ‘add-ons’ to regular entry.
Volunteer tour guides offer informative information on each individual plane and share fascinating insights into its history.
Experience the control panels, seating and gain an understanding of some of the tight spaces the pilots worked in!

- Aviation Youth Club
What better way to celebrate our brilliant youth community, then with their very own club!
The Aviation Youth Club is dedicated to learning about aviation for children aged between 8 to 17 years old.
The club meets every third Sunday between 10 and 11:30am, to learn different aspects of aviation with the inclusion of some field trips.
