On 2 July 1945, Dakota KN334 was reported missing on a transport flight from Townsville to Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea, while carrying freight for the Royal Navy. The aircraft’s last known position was 12.16S 149.33E, but it failed to arrive at its destination. The weather at the time was very bad with low cloud and heavy rain. The wreck of the aircraft was later found on Mt Iamuhara, Papua New Guinea at a height of 1,500 feet in the Samarai district in position 10.29S 150.15E. The aircraft had crashed into the side of the mountain and all on board had been killed.
