Lancaster JB603 took off from Grimsby at 1910 hours on the night of 5/6th January 1943, detailed to bomb Hanover, Germany. A signal was received from the aircraft at 2206 hours ‘target attacked’. After that nothing was heard and JB603 failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at 2300 hours in the hamlet of Haarbroek (Gelderland), 7kms south east of Gorssel and all the crew members were killed.
