On 15 May 1943, Vultee Vengeance A27-5 crashed when its engine caught fire on take-off at Batchelor Field, Northern Territory. The aircraft was on a non-operational ferry flight to No. 2 Aircraft Depot, RAAF Station Richmond, New South Wales.
