At 2239 hours on the night of 29 July 1943 Halifax W7883 took off from Pocklington detailed to bomb Hamburg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. It was believed that the aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Todesfelde, 9 kms south west of Bad Segeberg, Germany. All the crew members were killed.
