Aircraftman Class I Whatson, an Electrician, who was slightly wounded by a bullet shot by a sentry in the course of his duty. He was admitted to No. 1 RAAF Hospital Wagga, dangerously ill, when he developed pneumonia. He died on 11 July 1942 from fulminating gangrene infection of the left leg following the gunshot wound.
