On 18 October 1944, Kittyhawk A29-669 flown by Flying Officer Weymouth was one of a four aircraft formation detailed to carry out an offensive sweep in the Kai Islands area. Some light anti-aircraft fire was encountered during the sweep, and A29-669 was believed to have been shot down and was seen to crash and burn. In 1946 the wreck of the aircraft and the remains of Flying Officer Weymouth were found at Tetoe on Toad Island, one of the Kai group of islands.
