At 1320 hours on 8 November 1941 Manchester L7466 took off from Coningsby to carry out air sea rescue work in the North Sea searching for crews reported missing from the previous night’s operations. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to base. It was later recorded that the missing crew members had lost their lives at sea.
