At 1950 hours on the night of 6 September 1943 Lancaster ED819 took off from Syerston detailed to bomb Munich, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Grunwald, 13 kms south south west from the centre of Munich and all the crew members were killed.
