On 23 December 1940, Sergeant Watt was killed on his motorcycle when it collided with a Ford van on the Melbourne – Geelong road near Laverton, Victoria. Warrant Officer Aubrey William Park (205862) (Discharged: 16 April 1948), a passenger on the motorcycle, was uninjured.
