On 24 August 1944, Kittyhawk A29-631 flown by Pilot Officer Wallace as one of a formation of four aircraft carrying out a dive bombing of the Babo airstrip area. A29-631 was hit by anti-aircraft fire and was seen to crash on the west side of the airstrip.
