At 2331 hours on the night of 12 June 1944 Lancaster LM158 took off from Tuddenham detailed to bomb Gelsenkirchen. Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed in an area known as Sorense Zand near Eerbeek (Gelderland), 10 kms south west from Zutphen. Six of the crewmembers were killed and one taken prisoner.
