On 11 April 1944, Wellington LN245 was detailed to carry out non-operational solo night circuits and landings. The aircraft crashed at 0500 hours at Rothwell Glendon Road near the airfield. Two circuits had been carried out but on the third circuit the port engine failed and the aircraft crashed.
Three of the crew members were killed and one was injured.
