On 24 April 1942 Kittyhawk AK966 flown by Sergeant Tregear was strafing an enemy motor transport column near Cyrenaica, Libya. While passing over the target after the attack a truck blew up and the aircraft was seen to crash in flames. Following post war searches and investigations when no trace of the aircraft or the missing pilot was found, it was recorded in 1949 that Sergeant Tregear had no known grave.
