At Tern Hill Aerodrome on 20 September 1917, Cadet Treadwell, while alighting from Sopwith aircraft 6945, was struck and fatally injured by the still turning propeller.  Cadet Lawrence Benjamin, Australian Flying Corps, also flew on the sortie.
