On 1 October 1941, Aircraftman Class I Thompson, an aircraft hand, was admitted to RAAF Richmond Hospital dangerously ill from cerebo spinal meningitis. He was transferred to the Prince Henry Hospital in Sydney on 3 October where he died later that day.
