At 2030 hours on the night of 26 August 1944 Lancaster PB292 took off from Coningsby detailed to bomb Konigsberg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was lost and five of the crew members were killed and two became Prisoners of War.
