Squadron Leader Tamlyn became an Air Cadet on 11 June 1928 and graduated as a pilot. He transferred to the reserve on the 1 September 1936, and on 1 July 1940 was recalled for active service and posted for engineering duties.

On 12 October 1945, the appointment of Squadron Leader Tamlyn, an Engineer, was terminated and he died on the 11 July 1946.
