On 16 August 1916, Lieutenant Talbot resigned from the Australian Army and accepted a Commission in the British Army.
On 29 September 1917, Lieutenant Talbot and Second Lieutenant Gordon Charles Malcolm RFC flying in Avro aircraft B3111 were killed in an aircraft accident. B3111 collided with an aircraft flown by Second Lieutenant John Fernley Dick RFC and crashed in the north-east corner of the airfield. Second Lieutenant Dick was not killed. Disobedience of orders is annotated on the casualty card.
