At 2358 hours on the night of 19 February 1944 Lancaster ND505 took off from Wyton detailed to bomb Leipzig, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. It was later reported that the aircraft was shot down and had crashed at Wolphaartspijk (Zeeland), 22 kms east of Middleburg in the province of Zeeland, Netherlands. All the crew members had been killed.
