On 4 October 1941Tomahawk AK502 along with five other aircraft from the Squadron was detailed to patrol an area west of Sidi Omar. AK502 was No. 2 of the second pair of three aircraft. The formation was attacked by six or more ME109s at a height of 10,000 feet, and in the ensuing combat AK502 was shot down and Sergeant Stirrat was killed.
