On 5 June 1946, Warrant Officer Stiles, a Fitter Driver Motor Transport, was injured in a motor car accident on the Mallala-Gawler road, some 20 miles from Mallala. He was admitted dangerously ill to No. 7 RAAF Hospital where he died of his injuries on 9 June 1946.
