At 1714 hours on the night of 22 November 1943, Stirling LJ453 took off from Mepal detailed to bomb Berlin. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed between Gemmerich and Dolberg, 6kms south south east of Ahlen. All the crew members were killed.
