On 2 August 1943, Hudson AM532 took off from the Tafori aerodrome near Oran detailed to carry out low level bombing with practice bombs, at the edge of the Salt Lake, three miles west of Taparaouia. At 1400 hours, Flying Officer Lindsay had completed one run and had climbed on a right hand circuit to commence another run when the aircraft went into a dive from which it did not recover. He was a most experienced officer and the cause of the accident was not known.
