Brother of Flying Officer Ian Douglas Sheekey (413439)

At 2140 hours on the night of 16 December 1943 Boston W8290 took off detailed to search for and attack an enemy convoy headed for Ancona, Italy. If the convoy was not sighted W8290 was to conduct a reconnaissance of the Italian coast between Ancona and Rimini. Nothing was heard from the aircraft and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was lost and all the crew members were killed.
