On 27August 1944, Flight Sergeant Sharpe, a Fitter II Engines, was working alone in the workshops at the No. 78 Squadron Camp site at Noemfoor, New Guinea, using a welding torch, when an explosion occurred. Flight Sergeant Sharp was found in a state of collapse and he died shortly afterwards.
