On 25 July 1944, Spitfire NH494 flown by Warrant Officer Seeney was on an armed reconnaissance and during an attack on German road movements, it dived too low and struck power lines. At 0645 hours the aircraft crashed in flames eight miles east of Falaise, France and he was killed.
