On the 6 November 1941, Spitfire AD242 flown by Sergeant Schrader was flying with other Squadron aircraft as cover for three Tomahawks, when the formation was attacked by Me109s. AD242 was apparently hit as it dived vertically into the sea about 10 miles off Cape Gris Nez, France and Sergeant Schrader was lost. Sergeant Bernard Malcolm Geissman (404334) was also lost during this action.
