At 1228 hours on 30 March 1945, Kittyhawk A29-146 flown by Sergeant Saunders crashed at the Wentworth bombing range and he was killed. The aircraft flicked over after pulling out from a dive bombing run and Sergeant Saunders could not regain control before the aircraft struck the ground and disintegrated.
