On 12 October 1917, Second Lieutenant Royle resigned from the Australian Army and accepted a Commission in the British Army.
On 8 November 1918, Second Lieutenant Royle (Pilot) and Second Lieutenant Phillip Edward Buckingham RAF (Observer) flying in an RE8 aircraft were killed in an aircraft accident. No other details are provided in the RAF Records.
