At 0808 hours on 29 November 1943, Wirraway A20-364 flown solo by Leading Aircraftman Ross, a Trainee Pilot, crashed 18 miles north east of Moulamein, New South Wales, and he was killed. The aircraft took off at 0745 hours, detailed to carry out solo navigation exercise No. 6 on a route from Deniliquin to Balranald to Dubbo and return to Deniliquin. The wreck of the aircraft was discovered at 1645 hours on the same day, and the pilot’s body was found two miles away from the aircraft and his parachute was found unopened and intact, about 250 yards from his body.
