Wellington HZ257 took off from RAF Leconfield at 2210 hours on the night of 21 May 1943 to carry out a gardening (mine laying) mission in the Nectarines area off the western tip of Schiermonnikoog Island, Netherlands. Five aircraft from the Squadron took part in the mission from which HZ257 failed to return.
