At 1905 hours on the night of 22 March 1944 Lancaster ND536 took off from Fiskerton detailed to bomb Frankfurt, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. It was later established that the aircraft crashed and exploded at Ronnenburg presumably
due to enemy action. Ronnenburg is 21 miles north west of Kaiser Slaughtern, Germany. All the crew members were killed.
