During a test flight on 10 February 1945, Flying Officer Roe, a Ferry Pilot, and Warrant Officer Derrick Roy Newbury (920791) (RAFVR) (Observer) were killed when Beaufighter RD210 operating from RAF Station Pershore crashed at Mt Arran, Wales.

Flying Officer Roe was a member of the RAF Volunteer Reserve. On 1 July 1941, he transferred to the Administrative and Special Duties Branch and on 28 May 1943, he transferred to the General Duties Branch.
