On 29th June 1942 Hampden AD848 took off from RAF Cottesmore, for a night cross country training exercise. The aircraft dived almost vertically and crashed at 2343 hours between Moorends and Thorne, about 11 miles north-east from Doncaster, Yorkshire. All the crew members were killed.
