On 27 December 1915, Captain Richardson resigned from the Australian Army and accepted a Commission in the British Army. He is an Australian Air Ace credited with 7 victories.
While returning from a bombing raid on Heinin Lietard, France, on 13 April 1917, Captain Richardson (Pilot) and Second Lieutenant Douglas Charles Wollen RFC (Observer), flying FE2d aircraft A6372, were believed to have been shot down by heavy artillery.
