While being test flown on 5 April 1944, Kittyhawk A29-472 flown by Flying Officer Regan crashed into the sea at high speed about two miles from Cape Gloucester. The aircraft stalled during combat practice with Flight Sergeant Lee Oxley Hindley (421905) (Discharged: 17 October 1945) flying Kittyhawk A29-554 resulting in the crash in which Flying Officer Regan was lost.
