At 2053 hours on 13 July 1943 Wellington HE580 took off from Kairouan to attack an enemy target at Messina, Sicily. The route was from Base – Kelibia – Corridor – Cape San Marco- Milazza –
Messina, and return by the same route. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it did not return to base. In 1948 it was recorded that the missing crew members had lost their lives at sea.
