On 15 June 1942, Stirling R9324 took off from Oakington at 2337 hours to attack Essen, Germany. The aircraft was shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at St-Remy-du-Nord (Nord), 5 km south west of Maubeuge, France. Three crew members were killed, four captured and one evaded capture.
