On 10 December 1942, aircraft from the No. 601 Squadron were tasked for an offensive sweep and reconnaissance of the Marble Arch area in Libya. Flying Officer Raises in Spitfire ER461 went missing during the mission with his loss being unobserved and no trace of him or his aircraft was found.
