At 1050 hours on 17 August 1943, Wirraway A20-543 crashed 15 miles south east of the Mildura aerodrome during on a training flight and both pilots were killed. The Pilot under training was undergoing instruction in section combat, and the aircraft was seen to pull out suddenly and go into a steep dive at low altitude and one of the wings came off.
