At 1515 hours on 14 September 1944, Spitfire NH406 crashed when landing RAF Station Coltishall. The aircraft hit some obstruction on the east side of the perimeter track, turned over, broke up and caught fire. The aircraft appeared to be landing at too fast and was unable to stop before it hit the obstruction and Flying Officer Porter was killed.
