At 0910 hours on 2 May 1944, Boomerang A46-116 took off from the Gusap airstrip detailed to carry out a reconnaissance flight north of the Alexishafen area, New Guinea. A46-116 was escorted by two aircraft and was last seen by the escorts flying north-0west at 500 feet over Myrukinam. A46-116 failed to return to base and Flying Officer Paxton was reported missing.
