On the night of 27/28 August 1943 Stirling EE193 took off from Lakenheath detailed to bomb Nurnberg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Futtersee, 13 kms north north east of Scheinfeld, Germany, and all the crew members were killed.
