Lancaster ND731 took off from RAF Graveley at 2314 hours on the night of 4 July 1944 to attack the railway yards at Villeneuve-St-Georges, France. Nothing was heard from the aircraft and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at 0131 hours on 5th July 1944 between St-Hilarion (Yvelines) and Emance, France. Four crew members were killed, three became Prisoners of War and one evaded capture.
