Captain Muir was discharged from the Australian Army and Commissioned in the British Army in December 1915.
On 12 September 1917, Captain Muir, demonstrating aerobatics flying DH5 aircraft A9275, was killed when he dived the aircraft inverted at great speed and the lower right plane collapsed, causing the aircraft to crash.
