Lancaster W4835 of No. 97 (Straits Settlements) Squadron took off from RAF Station Woodhall Spa at 2348 hours on the night of 30/31st January 1943, to bomb a target at Hamburg, Germany. The weather was cloudy over the target. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to base. With no trace of the aircraft or crew being found following post war enquiries, the missing crew members were recorded in 1950 as having no known grave.
