At 2309 hours on the night of 9 July 1943 Halifax JD126 took off from Elvington detailed to bomb Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. Post War reports by Missing Research and Enquiry teams stated “the aircraft was hit by flak and crashed at 0130 hours on 10 July 1943 at Witmatsum in the province of Friesland,
North Holland.” All the crew members were killed.
