On 11 July 1942, Corporal Morris, a Fitter II Airframe, was missing in flood waters when on duty at Tamworth. Part of the aerodrome at Tamworth and adjacent paddocks were covered with flood water from the Peel River which had overflowed its banks due to heavy rains. Corporal Morris had been endeavouring to release some horses on one of the flooded paddocks and was swept away by the flood waters and drowned.
