On 13 July 1945 Dakota KN457 was detailed to carry out a supply landing to No 221 Group at Meiktila. The pilot of Dakota ‘U’ of No. 62 Squadron reported that when flying at about 8,000 feet in an approximate position 060 degrees, 11 miles from base, he saw an aircraft flying about 1,000 feet below and to port at 1021 hours. Looking downwards a few seconds later he and two crew members observed a Dakota in a steep spin at about 4,000 feet. Shortly after, it disappeared into cloud. He reported the incident to Control and Civil Affairs reported at 1200 hours that the Headman from the village of Dongyi had information concerning an aircraft that had crashed near his village. The aircraft was a complete wreck and 4 bodies were found.
